Ramla Bay - Gozo

Ramla Bay is located on the northern side of Gozo, the second largest island of the Maltese archipelago.

The beach in general
Ramla Bay is the largest sandy beach on the island of Gozo and it is also considered to be the best.

The beach is very popular with both Maltese residents and holidaymakers, especially from the nearby seaside resort of Marsalforn. However, the beach is quite large and seldom overcrowded.

Its real Maltese name is 'Ir-Ramla il-Hamra', originating from the reddish sand. The soft sand is backed by dunes thick with tamarisk and bamboo. The water is very clear and shallow.

Beach facilities include loungers, parasols and toilets. The beach is well protected by a lifeguard.

Ramla Bay is characterised by a statue dedicated to Our Lady of Hope. This white statue stands in the middle of the beach.

Child friendliness
The sea is shallow and perfect for children.
The only drawback is some pebbles at the shoreline.

Water sports
None, but the bay is perfect for snorkelling.

Beach restaurants
There are several restaurants/cafés and ice cream kiosks at the back of the beach.

Resorts close to Ramla Bay
The seaside resort of Marsalforn is situated in the next bay to the west. The distance by car is about three kilometres.

Marsalforn is the most popular tourist resort in Gozo and it is well served with hotels, restaurants, bars and a rather small sandy beach.
