Mellieha Bay is a popular tourist destination in the northwestern part of Malta, some 32 kilometres north of Valletta.

The beach
The beautiful beach in Mellieha Bay is the longest sandy beach in Malta.

The beach slopes gently into the crystal clear water offering safe conditions for children and less confident swimmers.

Beach facilities include sun-beds, umbrellas, toilets and life guards. Parking is possible in the streets behind the beach.

Since sandy beaches are quite rare in Malta, the beach can become rather crowded, especially in July and August.

Child friendliness
The fine sand and the shallow water make the beach ideal for children.

Water sports
A variety of water sports are available, including paragliding, banana boating, water skiing, pedalos and even scuba-diving.

Beach restaurants
There are several restaurants and cafés close to the beach.

Mellieha Bay resort
Mellieha is divided into two. The inland village of Mellieha and the resort of Mellieha Bay.

The charming village of Mellieha offers fantastic views over the bay. The village has a few hotels and a good selection of tranquil restaurants serving Mediterranean and local dishes.

Mellieha Bay is a very family-friendly holiday resort with a good range of hotels and holiday apartments. There is a wide variety of restaurants, including fine fish restaurants along the sea front. The night life in Mellieha Bay is pretty low key.

From Mellieha Bay you can jump on the shuttle bus to Popeye Village Fun Park, one of the most visited attractions on Malta.
