Malta experiences a Mediterranean climate, characterised by hot dry summers and mild winters, although with some rain.

The weather is perfect for summer holidays from May to October. From May to August Malta experience 10-11 hours of sunshine per day and rainfall is virtually non-existent.

In late September and October short but heavy rainfalls are seen during occasional thunderstorms.

With its mild winters, Malta is a popular destination to escape the cold weather in northern Europe. Temperatures seldom fall below 10 degress Celsius and even in winter the sun shines for 5 to 6 hours per day on average.

Water temperatures make swimming pleasant from June right through to November. In this period the average water temperature is 21 degrees Celsius. Water temperatures can reach 25 degrees Celsius in late summer.
