The Blue Lagoon - Comino Island

The Blue Lagoon is situated on Comino, which is a small island between the larger islands of Malta and Gozo.

The beach in general
The Blue Lagoon is a picturesque bay surrounded by rocks. The water is crystal clear and very shallow, which makes it perfect for swimming and snorkelling. It is almost like a huge swimming pool.

There are some spots with sand, but a lot of visitors find a quieter spot on the rocks. Services at the Blue Lagoon include sunbeds, umbrellas and toilets.

Best time to visit the Blue Lagoon is on weekdays or weekends early morning, since afternoons tend to get crowded.

There are several cruise companies operating from Malta and Gozo islands. Prices vary from 20 EUR to 50 EUR depending on what is included in the cruise.

Child friendliness
The sandy areas are very small, however the children can play safely in the shallow lagoon.

Water sports
Motorised water sports are not allowed in the lagoon. Comino is known for its spectacular dive sites and underwater caves.

Beach restaurants
There are several beach bars serving cold drinks, ice creams, sandwiches etc. A restaurant is found in the nearby Comino Hotel.

Comino Island
The island of Comino is quite small, measuring only 3.5 square kilometres. It has a permanent population of less than ten residents.

There is one hotel on the island, Comino Hotel, which is opened during the summer season.

Other beaches on Comino include St. Mary Bay and St. Nicholas Bay.
